Dr Bhaskar Fulena Gujadhur: 1982-2023

It is with sadness we inform the surgical community of the passing of our colleague from Mauritius after a brave struggle with cancer. He was 41 years of age.

Dr Gujadhur, was born and reared in Mauritius. He underwent his primary and high school training in Mauritius prior to studying his basic medical degree in India at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University, in Karnataka India. After internship and some time in Mauritius he joined the surgical training program at UKZN as a supernumerary registrar, training in General Surgery between March 2011 until the end of December 2014. He passed his FCS(SA) in 2015.

He did research on burns related thrombocytopaenia toward the MMed degree, although this work was, unfortunately, not published. He was fondly remembered by colleagues and students as a fun person with a wicked sense of humour!

During the time of his training he found love and married Meagan Lewis, prior to returning to Mauritius to practice his speciality on completion of the FCS(SA) exam and registrastion as a specialist in Mauritius. He worked at Clinique Ferrier hospital, Curepipe and did consultancy work for the insurance industry from 2016 until a week prior to his death. He was popular with his patients and their families.

Our sympathies go to Meagan and his children during these trying times.
