You are invited to participate in a survey to Define Humanitarian Surgery, an international Delphi process. Dr McKnight has sent the following details of the study:
“I am a General Surgery Registrar currently undertaking an Innovation Fellowship with the Humanitarian Surgery Initiative of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. One of our projects seeks to define the term ‘Humanitarian Surgery’. We would greatly appreciate the support of your association to increase the uptake of this survey, especially amongst respondents from LMICs.
Currently, there is no agreed definition of Humanitarian Surgery making it difficult to compare interventions, outcomes and cost effectiveness since a wide variety of activities are included under global or humanitarian surgery.
To address this question, a modified Delphi process will be used, drawing on clinicians and policy makers from across the world. This aims to stimulate debate on the topic and to focus further research on when Humanitarian Surgery may be required, when it isn’t, and what role it should play within the broader aims of improving surgical care across the world.
We are particularly keen that clinicians from across Africa contribute to this study and we would be very grateful if you could share this study with your members.
The link to the study is here, each participant will need to create an account with Welphi in order to complete the study. If you would consider sending this to your network or posting on social media we would be extremely grateful.”
Yours sincerely,
Gerard McKnight
