Types of Operations

The operations that general surgeons most commonly perform are:

bullet Hernia repair -- inguinal (groin), umbilical, ventral, hiatal
bullet Gallbladder -- removal for gallstones, usually laparoscopic cholecystectomy
bullet Mastectomy or lumpectomy -- for breast cancer; or breast biopsy for lumps or abnormal mammograms
